The schedule for the 2013 Detroit Red Wings Development camp at Centre I.C.E. Arena in Traverse City, MI has been finalized. The camp, which runs July 9th through July 16th, will feature many of the organization’s top prospects as well as the 2013 NHL draft class. With many of the organizations prospects having extended playoff runs, the camp will run on a compressed schedule. For years the Detroit Red Wings put heavy emphasis on finding NHL talent in Europe. The collective bargaining agreement, which expired in 2004, allowed teams to retain the rights of European talent indefinitely. The Wings used this to their advantage selecting players like Jonathan Ericsson, Pavel Datsyuk, and Henrik Zetterberg late in the draft and allowing them to slowly develop. While they were uncovering European gems in the 1990’s and early 2000’s, Detroit was completely ignoring the college ranks and having only marginal success in the Canadian junior leagues.

When the Red Wings recalled Joakim Andersson in early February, he was expected to be an extra forward after veteran forwards Todd Bertuzzi and Darren Helm suffered injuries. 38 regular season games later, the 6-foot-2, 206 pound forward hasn’t left the line-up even as veteran forwards returned from injury.

The 6-foot, 174 pound center is finally putting up the type of numbers the Red Wings expected after drafting him 32nd overall in the 2009 entry draft. The Detroit Red Wings will be returning to Traverse City, MI to host their annual prospects tournament and training camp at Centre I.C.E. Arena in Traverse City, Mich. Additionally Centre I.C.E. will also host the Wings annual prospect development camp July 9th through the 17th.
