Nesty1Last year at this time, Andrej Nestrasil’s career with the Red Wings didn’t look so bright. The 75th overall selection in the 2009 NHL draft hadn’t been able to crack the AHL full time, spending the bulk of his first two professional seasons in Toledo of the ECHL. Nastasiuk 2014The fact that the Red Wings named Zach Nastasiuk an alternate captain says a lot for his leadership abilities. The 19 year-old was chosen ahead of several players who have more years of hockey experience because of his leadership ability and work ethic.

“We think he’s a natural leader,” Griffins Head Coach Jeff Blashill said. “He just has a quality about him that makes others follow him. It isn’t something you teach.”

2014 Training Camp Alumni and Celebrity Roster Announced

Drak2The roster for the Alumni and Celebrity game scheduled for 7:00 pm  on September 20th is below. All players and teams are subject to change depending on availability. Special jerseys have been designed specifically for the event and fans in attendance will be able to bid on the autographed jerseys during a silent auction that will open an hour before the game and run through the first period. Red Wings 2014 Training Camp Roster

Arena in Traverse City, MI.  Daniel Alfredsson, who may still re-sign with Detroit, is not participating in training camp but could be signed before the season opens. Also included on the roster are nine free agent tryouts including Aaron RomeBrandon Robinson and  Joe Hicketts.

Shouldering the Load: Wheaton Finally Healthy and Ready for Big Year

These teams will take effect September 19th beginning at 9:30 am for the first practice at Centre I.C.E. Arena in Traverse City, MI. Each team will practice daily but only two teams will scrimmage. Below is a breakdown of the teams as well as the schedule for the scrimmages.

Sniper Mentality: Martin Frk Aims at Becoming a ‘Shoot First Player’

Frk1There isn’t anyone more disappointed in his first professional hockey season than Martin Frk. Big things were expected from the 49th overall selection in the 2012 NHL entry draft, but spending significant time in Toledo of the ECHL was not one of them. Frk was demoted after having difficulty cracking the Griffins lineup and spent 15 games with the Walleye before returning to Grand Rapids to finish the season.
