Pest Control: Callahan Wants to Prove He is Multidimensional

If Mitch Callahan had it his way, he’d fight as often as possible. The 5-foot-11, 186 pound forward cut his penalty minutes in half last season, while playing for the Kelowna Rockets of the WHL. His penalty totals dropped from 165 in 2010 to 87 in 2011.

“It wasn’t really my choice to cut down the fighting,” he said. “If I could I would still get 20 plus fights a year, but my coach wanted me to be the best all around forward on the team. He wanted me on the … Continue Reading

It’s been a long agonizing offseason for Andrej Nestrasil. The former 75th overall pick in the 2009 NHL draft had until June 1st to ink an entry level deal with the Red Wings or his rights would have been lost.

Mrazek: “We Have to Do Better”

This wasn’t the start that Petr Mrazek or the Red Wings had hoped for. After a strong opening period in Saturday night’s game against the Blue Jackets, the Red Wings surrendered four unanswered goals.

“Columbus is a tough team,” Mrazek said. “We had a great first period and then the second period was important for them as they scored four goals. They scored two power play goals which hurt us. We have to do better.”

In addition to the untimely penalties, the Red Wings had some of defensive lapses and turnovers in … Continue Reading
