Petr The Great Named #9 in THN Future Watch Goalie Edition
Peter Mrazek may be the best Red Wings prospect you’ve never heard of.
The 6-foot, 162-pound goalie is having another strong season for the Ottawa 67’s of the Ontario hockey league. Mrazek is currently second in the league in save percentage with a .920 and his 2.89 goals against isn’t too shabby either.
The Red Wings drafted Mrazek with 141st pick in the 2010 draft citing his competitiveness as a key reason for the selection. In is first year as a starter in the OHL, the Czech born netminder is putting himself on the map as a prospect. The Hockey News even named him the ninth best junior aged drafted goalie stating that the “Czech star can steal games.”
The 18 year-old attended the Red Wings training camp and prospect tournament in Traverse City, MI this fall and had an outstanding camp. Mrazek showed great confidence outplaying both Jordan Pearce and Thomas McCollum in his first camp with the Red Wings.
The only disappointment for Mrazek this season has been not playing in the World Junior Championship Tournament earlier this year due to a disagreement with his former Czech team. The Czech’s, who finished well outside the medals, certainly could have used Mrazek’s ability to steal games…
